BASF sold its optical brightener business to Catexel , which is expanding its product portfolio in the detergent industry.

BASF has agreed to sell its optical brightener business to Catexel . This business is currently part of BASF's Care Chemicals business unit. Optical brighteners are a key ingredient in laundry detergent formulations. Financial details of the transaction have not yet been disclosed, and the transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026 .

This transaction covers the business's international operations , including the fluorescent whitening agent production site in Monthey , Switzerland , and approximately 80 employees . This divestiture is part of BASF's strategic transformation.

Mary Kurian, President of BASF's Care Chemicals business, said: "As part of our ' Winning Ways ' strategy, we are actively managing our portfolio and driving a focused approach. Catexel, as an committed and focused new owner, will further develop this business and unlock its potential."

Catexel is the personal care chemicals platform of the International Chemical Investment Group (ICIG) , focusing on providing high-quality specialty chemicals for washing and cleaning products, personal care, and industrial applications .

Through this acquisition, Catexel is expanding its product portfolio to offer customers a wider range of premium detergent ingredients, while further solidifying its position as a reliable market partner .
